Everyone says Letterman was wrong for cutting it from the show, and in reality, it would have been fine for his NBC show, and it would have been par for the course for any stand-up stage in that era. In a day where Sam Kinison and Andrew Dice Clay were revered for their misogyny and homophobia, Bill was run of the mill. But for a show that went up against the old Johnny Carson Show? I think the execs were thinking, would Johnny have had this on his show, and I don't think he would have. Dave's old show was edgy and took risks, Johnny was old Hollywood and old hat, which is pretty much what all late shows in that time spot are to this day. I'm not saying Dave was right, but the bit sure would have stood out. Bill would have been the next George Carlin if he had lived. But even George knew his audience on a given night, and he dummied down and softened and cleaned up his act for his appearances on Johnny and Arsenio. National TV is for hack comics and hack routines, not the biting stuff George and Bill and Dave Chappelle did on stage.

Religious texts are hard to accept because they were written by man and usually imposed on people by their conquerors. But he says religion wouldn't come back the same way. How does he know that? If anything in our current religious texts is true and divinity is real, religion will find its way. It's safe to assume that a faithful person would say, with the same conviction he predicts science would come back, that religion would ALSO come back the same.
